Commencement Speakers 2011

Who's speaking this year?

I just searched my undergraduate son's college website and they haven't announced it yet.

Rice is having NYT columnist David Brooks.

Gwen Ifill is speaking at Lafayette College.

I would love to hear either David Brooks or Gwen Ifill. Both have good, well functioning minds. I don't always agree with Brooks, but I can usually follow his reasoning. Reason seems to be altogether lacking in too much of our public discourse.

UNC is having E.O. Wilson...

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is speaking at Notre Dame

Ithaca College is having David Muir of ABC News fame. He is an alum and everyone is very excited.

Vanderbilt does not have the speaker at graduation. Instead, the speaker is at an assembly the day before. This year, it is Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Green Belt movement founder Wangari Maathai.
