Commercial Music Audition Repertoire (Piano and Violin)

Hey, i’m auditioning at belmont this year for a major in commercial music with emphasis in composition and arranging.
i’m still not sure if i’m auditioning with piano or violin, but i need two contrasting commercial selections for each. they can be country, jazz, blues, etc.
i really want a good fiddle piece for the violin but i’m not sure where to look? and i have NO clue where to start with piano…any ideas?

My son completed commercial violin at Belmont. I remember he did at least a Bach Partita and Appalachia Waltz.

would appalachia waltz be considered contemporary?

Mark O’Connor wrote it several years ago, so I would call it contemporary. At the time my son wanted to show his classical training as well as his playing well a popular, slightly difficult violin piece in a very different style.

Back in 2001 it got him a scholarship to Belmont.

I looked at the Belmont website for audition requirements, but they have not been set for next year. I went to the web site of “Office of Admissions” and saw some scrolling pictures. In the picture of 4 guys playing instruments, my son is the mandolin player.

Thanks for prompting me to look back at the website. Nice memory.
