Has the admissions office gone into committee yet? Has our fate been put into the hands of these officers one last time?

It has been in committee for probably the past 5 or so weeks-- in fact they are most likely almost done.

What if they already rejected a kid and that kid sends in an update? Will they take him out of the reject pile and reconsider?

An update triggers a re-opening of your file. If you’ve already been rejected, your file will be given to an Admin for a re-evaluation, along with whatever updated materials you submitted.

@gibby,

So when in doubt, sending in an update would be good, as long as it’s of some merit?

would becoming an intel isef finalist this week be worthy of sending an update to the adcom? or, is it too late especially since the finals for isef will be in pittsburgh in the middle of may?

If my D was a ISEF finalist I would forward that email/scan that letter and do what it takes to send it off to all the colleges she is applying for. Given that decisions are being finalized this would be my first task tomorrow. Good Luck :)

batfan: yes
soso20: SEND THE UPDATE ASAP!

I agree. ISEF is a great achievement!

@ gibby,

I’m having trouble deciding which updates are important. Like mentioned above, ISEF is definitely worth sending an update for, but what about scholarship awards like AXA Achievement Finalist and AXA Community Achievement Finalist (not recipient)? Also, would being chosen for a competitive summer research internship scholar be worth sending the update to let them know?

Thank you so much!

thanks so much!

At this late in the process, I would send what you have, and let the Admins decide what is important!

@etondad, WOW how do you know they’re in committee already???

@thomasrosal: common sense. Think of how many offers still need to go out.

The Crim every year has a article about the admissions process. Fitzsimmons talks about the mechanics, etc. Usually they start subcommittees by early February and the target being done about 10 days before the letters/emails go out.
