My DD plans to accept enrollment now at one of her top choices, because it’s the only way to access the soon-to-open housing application (and housing is impacted at this school.) She’ll unenroll if she decides later to choose a different school. We’ve done our research, and we’ll only lose the $50 enrollment fee plus $100 housing fee, which we are willing to do.
What about the schools she hasn’t heard back from? Will this course of action impact those decisions by those schools?
And what about the other top choices, where she has been accepted? Will they know/care that she’s accepted enrollment elsewhere?
We’re feeling conflicted about doing things this way, but also feel backed into a corner with the housing situation at this one school.
It is ok to put down the enrollment deposit if you have to for housing access. Other schools won’t know that you have done this. The idea is to only have one enrollment deposit at a time though. Also, make sure if/when unenrolling that you unenroll from both the school and from the housing…unbelievably those are separate functions at some schools.
You are right that the schools are backing students into the corner and basically forcing deposits this way, but there’s nothing to do. Good luck with the rest of her decisions.
They will not know (how could they track the thousands of applications/acceptances?) and will not care. Just make sure to cancel the acceptance immediately is she picks another school.
