Teen has not started the common app yet but is looking at the type of questions on the common app. For the “Do you plan to participate in college?” question in the activities section, is the question asking whether you plan to continue that specific activity with that specific organization or is it asking whether you will continue that type of activity? For example if you are doing research at a specific organization with a finite date, but you hope to do similar research in college or just research in general, are you checking yes or no? If you belong to a specific club in H.S. and hope to find a similar club in college is that a yes or no? I get things like playing an instrument or sports activity might be yes answers for college (or are they)? Thanks.
They mean type of activity.

Ok. Another question in the research area. If teen hopes to continue doing research for example, but not necessarily the kind of research on the activities list, is that a yes or no? Thanks.

I just told our kids to default to yes. For example, S25 is on a trivia team in high school. Most of the small colleges where he’s looking don’t have trivia teams so he probably won’t be on one in college but if there were one, he would join. Make sense?
Now, if it’s something they are not going to continue, like a sport, then obviously it would be a No.
