What do they mean by ‘demonstrates contrasting examples of expression and technique’?

On the Duke website it says I need to provide ‘contrasting monologues’, how?

I think the main thing is just showing that you as an actor have range and that you’re not just one note. For example, I submitted my theatre arts supplement for ED and in it i showed pictures of all the shows I did, like musicals, and comedys, and sad dramas and what not and then I did a shakespeare monlogue. it just shows that you can do many things and that you are willing to try new things and grow as an actor. At least that’s the way I took it. Hope that helped.

My son wondered about this too. He submitted an art supplement for music with video samples of his work on different instruments…four mallet marimba, timpani and marching percussion. Hopefully, this covers “contrasting” requirement?

Btw, his Duke application is the source of deep consternation with his UNC-CH alum sister.
