When click on the counselor section on the Common app, I can see tabs indicating the upload status of my school reports, but I can’t find the tab for recommendation letters. Does it only appear on my counselors common app account or am I missing something?

Well the common app doesn’t open until August 1st.
Once you have a common app account (opening up on Aug 1 for the 2015-16 cycle), there is an option for adding teachers to ask for a recommendation. Once you add the teacher’s name and email, he/she will get sent a notice from the common app that you sent a recommendation request. Then the teacher follows the instructions from there. But make sure you ask your teacher(s) personally for a recommendation first so they are not blindsided. They only write one recommendation and it will then get sent to all your common app schools.
However, if your school uses Naviance, then the process may be different. My Ds HS uses Naviance and teacher recs were written and given to the GC to upload through Naviance, and not through the common app. Just double check with your GC to see how your high school and guidance department will handle the recs.
