S25 is taking a dual enrollment class at our CC online. It’s two separate semester long classes (that have entirely different names from the HS class) that together make up one, 2 credit HS class. Counselor told S that the class will only show up on his HS transcript once he’s finished the fall class, which will be mid-December. SO…how does he handle this in Common App current year courses? Does he list the class even though it probably won’t be on his transcript for any ED/EA schools? Not include it? Doesn’t seem like there’s a place in this section of common app to explain any discrepancies.
The course should be on your son’s list of classes in progress.
Your son can see if the guidance counselor can note how the class is handled on the transcript in his/her LOR.
If your son is not certain that the guidance counselor will mention how the class is handled on the transcript, he can always include a very brief (sentence or two) explaination in the additional comments section of the application.
TBH, it’s unnecessary. Most transcripts will not have senior year courses listed until after the first marking period.
List as a course in progress. Period. No explanation required.
I don’t know…but if the OP is applying to any EA/ED/rolling admssion schools that ask for his first quarter transcript might it lead to a question if the dual enrollment class is not showing up? It does make sense that no grade will show up until the college semester is over.
Thanks for your replies (and skieurope, thank you, too!)
His transcript (at least the unofficial one) does list all of his HS-based senior year classes, including one that will only start in spring. That’s why I was thinking that the discrepancy between what is reported and what is on paper from the HS could be problematic. Maybe I’ll suggest he add a note under additional comments, then. Thanks again!
Also, whenever colleges applied or matriculated to want transcripts for frosh admission, they want them from all high schools and colleges attended.
So list the DE courses among in progress or planned courses, and send the college transcript if any have been completed when transcripts are asked for.
