My d got an email today that Rice is extending the deadline for online apps to Jan. 11. Not sure whether it applies just because she had her scores sent to Rice, but I thought I would pass this along. You might confirm with the admissions office first. Here’s the email:

Dear HighlandDaughter,

We understand that many families in communities throughout the country have been affected by the recent winter weather, losing power at home, at school, and suffering other challenges. Since we know you listed Rice among the schools you were considering with your Common Application account, we want to help. Rice University will extend the Regular Decision application deadline to January 11. This extension applies to ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS ONLY. Please do not postmark a paper application on January 11, because we cannot guarantee we would have time to process, read, and submit for committee review in a timely fashion.

As of today, we have already received 12,000 applications— a record year of applications to Rice. We cannot extend past this extension, so please be sure to electronically submit your application no later than January 11. If you have any questions, contact us at 1-800-527-OWLS.

Sincerely,
Julie M. Browning
Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment

*** Kindly disregard this message if you submitted a paper application or QuestBridge application prior to January 2. ***
