<pre><code>The youth culture of today has been largely focused on conformity, to mesh into bland collectivism, always hesitant to break away with rugged individualism. I have always been a conformist whose roots come from my personality and from the pressures of judgment and insecurity. I have always found it easier and preferred to get along with people by agreeing with their ideas and assimilating their beliefs into my identity. This passive sense of self has been ongoing until I met a very intriguing and extroversive character named Brent Slyker.

<p>He was the polar opposite of everything that my personality stood for. His was black and mine was white. So why did I decided to acquaint myself with him? His gregarious personality combined with a political persuasiveness appealed to me in some strange and eccentric way. There was something uniquely noble about what he did, the way he stood up for what he believed in, the way he questioned all authority never leaving any questions unanswered. I met him in my AP American History class and he sat right next to me. Little did I know that we’d become the closest of friends, but at the time I was still my usual shy, opinion less self. Our friendship bloomed when he asked me if I’d like to study for history together. The more I got to knew him, the more I was drawn in. What once started as history study sessions shifted into genuine public discourse where we discussed controversial topics and our opinions. My usual emulative attitude slowly changed as we delved into more and more controversial topics. But it hadn’t dispersed. I instead decided to model my behavior after his. I admired the passion that he radiated and his influence inspired me in ways that I never thought possible.</p>

<p>The essay isnt finished yet, but i feel like i need help going in the write direction. thanks for the help in advance, and if needed i can help put input on others essays. thanks!
