Hey guys I wanted some advice. I started on the third common app prompt about a problem that is personal to you and the magnitude of the problem doesn’t matter. So I had the idea of doing an essay about the human attraction to light and other associations with humans and light. Do you think this is unusual and may be frowned upon?
Unusual is good. It means your thinking critically and are unique. My essay will be very unusual also (its all about blankets). Just as long as its not too abstract and keeps you as the protagonist then I think its fine.
You can use that as a hook and unifying theme, but your essay needs to be primarily about you. So remember to keep tying it back - and don’t just wait until the end to do this. This has a lot of potential - absolutely start on it.
Unusual doesn’t mean a thing about critical thinking unless you do it well. OP, remember, this is for your college admissions review. Try to keep it relevant to that and show they attributes they want.
Not sure how blankets will do that for an adcom.
