Common App question

On Michigan’s supplement on the Common App, it asks if I’ve previously applied to U-M. I am a high school senior who is dual-enrolled at Michigan (so I have a UMID and uniqname, etc.) as a non-degree student; however, it is my first time applying to four-year universities. What should I answer for this question?

@clarinetkid‌, I believe “previously applied” means “previously applied for matriculation”, and not “previously applied for dual-enrollment”. But just to be sure that that’s still the case, it’s best to contact or live-chat with undergrad admissions directly:
https://umich.custhelp.com/app/utils/login_form/redirect/ask

I agree with parentOf2018. Call the admissions office and ask the question.

Yeah, I thought I should probably ask them. Too bad it’s fall break T.T I guess I’ll have to hold out for a few more days (just finished the rest of that app!)

I’m nearly positive that you should check the box. If you do not, the system will automatically create a profile for you. You already have a UMID and unique name in the University of Michigan system. Creating a new one may cause issues. I would still live chat or call to verify. Good news is if you are able to check the box, your application fee will be waived.

Update in case anyone in a similar situation is wondering: I contacted admissions, and they told me to answer “No” to the question. I asked about the whole UMID situation, and they told me that my information will be updated when I submit my application (implying that they will match my current account to my “prospective freshman” account).
