Common App Silly Error

After proofreading my common app a couple of times yesterday, I submitted it. During my lunch today, I checked the submitted application because I was really nervous about its strength (I had less than 2 hours of sleep due several obligations) and wanted some reassurance.

Apparently I indicated I have pending felony charges against me!! For context, I’m a 5’2 Asian girl that can barely do a push-up (I go down like 2 inches lol)

As soon as I found out, I emailed my county admissions counselor about it.Worst case scenario: I look negligent and discredit how accurate the rest of my application is. Best case: she gets a laugh. Hopefully it’s the latter.

Just wanted to share my story to share some laughs!! People thought it was funny on Twitter, so I guess that’s a positive note hahha

@jajajalol - that’s funny but also speaks of the importance to have some others to look over the application before submitting.
Perhaps in order to make your application correct, you should make it true! LOL

I know people smaller than you with multiple felonies . . . 8-X

When people are nervous and stressed they do all sorts of boneheaded things. At my wedding, I left my flower bouquet in the bathroom and had to get married without it because no one could find it in time. When my hubby had a job interview that involved driving his potential boss across town to meet a client, he blew through a four way stop in a company car…which is insanely unlike my hubster,…he’s a meticulous driver who doesn’t get tickets. People in the public eye do blindingly stupid things every day when they’re under pressure. It’s human to err.

The biggest thing you have to worry about, is your application getting automatically sent to rejections because no one followed through to correct the error. In addition to your admissions counselor, I’d contact the University Admissions department directly, and let them know what happened. https://admissions.umich.edu/contact-us. Also, ask if they would please send confirmation that the incorrect answer was fixed, and that you’re being considered. Use a LOT of pleases and thank yous. Apologize. And explain how relieved you’d feel to know for sure that the problem has been resolved.

With luck, someone will send you an email to let you know that the correction was handled, and that your admission is being considered. Try to be patient, but make sure to follow up, too.

Don’t kick yourself too hard. It happens. Sorry for the added stress. Best wishes, and good luck!

@MaryGJ - awesome advice. Not only applies to this person, but to all of us, who like you said - tend to make inadvertent mistakes from time to time.

@MedSciBud my friend and I sent ours at the same time!! I suppose we were just nervous and didn’t look over it well :’( But yea you’re right!! I should’ve been much more careful and I had a trusted adult look over my app sooner

@poblob14 I guess I have to beat them hehhe

@MaryGJ My regional admission officer replied pretty quickly and said she forwarded my email to the admissions office!! That’s a bit of relief
Yes, thank you so much for your advice!! I probably would’ve just left things alone after reading my admission officer’s reply, and that could’ve been disastrous. I guess it could’ve been worse if I marked myself with having actual felony charges, but luckily I said I had a PENDING felony charge hahha. Hopefully my app turns out fine, and again I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!!! ::))

I entered my birthday incorrect in Michigan transcript! I’m with you for sure. I definitely learned to be more careful after that lol, was a funny conversation with the IT guy when I couldn’t get into wolverine access because I put down my birth year as 2016. Michigan was VERY easy about it, everyone was very nice. I wouldn’t worry too much!

@goblue8721 - funny indeed. Glad you were able to get it fixed.
On another note - how many days did it take for you to get the Wolverine Access invite email?

@MedSciBud i applied on a friday…so i believe it was about the tuesday after that because of the weekend

@goblue8721 - I received mine today

@MedSciBud awesome! best of luck
