Common App (Submitted --> Downloaded by College) How long on avg?

My student submitted a whole bunch of common apps last week 8/6 and when my older student applied a couple years ago (also in August) I recall most of the submitted applications being downloaded by each college pretty immediately. As of today, 8/12 none have yet to be downloaded by any colleges. Is this because it’s still so early, do some schools pull apps in batches? When might she expect to start to see them downloaded by each college?

Mid-August and early September.

Just because the CA is open on 8/1 doesn’t mean that colleges are ready to receive. It is running test napping and other diagnostics. Admissions is working in training and other duties. Not to worry.

And just because a college shows that they’ve downloaded the application, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re reviewing it. Unless it’s a rolling-admissions school, they’ll typically wait until after the application deadline to begin reviewing applications.

IOW, the date you see in the Common App means very little.

Thank you, both! That makes me feeling better that the delay is normal this time of year. She did receive an “application under review” from Pitt after applying directly through their application last week so she’s excited at least 1 is officially under review.

A few colleges have emailed with portal setup info, even without the notation switching to “downloaded by the college” on Common App so maybe things are different with Common App this year with that notification after submitted applications.
