One of the questions for the supplement to the Common Application asks

“If you could pose for a formal oil portrait in the style of Hans Holbein’s The Ambassadors, what possessions would surround you and why?”

I am not familiar with the piece (never taken an art class), so I was wondering what the objects in this painting represent about “the ambassador.” Should I talk about items I love, that represent who I am? That is my best guess, but in something this important guessing is not good enough.

thanks in advance,
CB

if you’re unfamiliar with the painting (which i’m sure most people are) you should be looking it up online and seeing what it looks like. as you say, “guessing is not good enough”

here’s one interpretation of the painting. i suggest you look at the painting before you read it, so your ideas don’t get affected as much

<hijack> whoever suggested that question to be used for the next year on his application is ridiculous </hijack>

wasn’t me, i said something about application of new technology =)
