<p>I was wondering what the advantage or need is to write the essay in the writing section of the common app. I was under the impression that various colleges have different essay topics. It’s not like this one essay in this section is going to be accepted universally among all colleges. </p>
<p>So yeah, my question is what is the advantage of writing this essay that might not be accepted by certain colleges?</p>
<p>If the college accepts the Common Application (and you are using it) the writing section is required.</p>
<p>Certain colleges require additional essays in the form of supplements, which can also be found on the Common Application website.</p>
<p>I was also wondering what type of information one would put in the “Addition Information” textbox at the bottom of the writing section. Or is that usually omitted by many?</p>
