My 8th grader is in the process of interviewing/applying to boarding schools in the mid-Atlantic region. I think she is a fairly strong applicant at this tier of school (nearly all As at an independent day school, taking the SSAT this weekend but scoring at the ~80th percentile on practice tests, good interviewee, good mix of sporty/artsy/community-focused ECs). After visiting five schools, we have two clear favorites. Two questions for this wise group:
Should we communicate to our two favorites that they are our top pick? We already sent our post-interview thank you notes a few weeks ago while we were still in the interviewing process and weren’t sure which school we would like best. So, we didn’t convey it in the thank you because we didn’t know then.
I would like to ask schools when their revisit days are. We usually travel during the kids’ spring break in late March/early April, but that seems to be when a lot of revisits are offered. We are trying to figure out if we can do a vacation. Would it seem presumptuous to ask schools their 2025 revisit dates before we even complete our application?
Some schools have their revisit days scheduled in advance and posted in their Admissions calendar. Other schools schedule them once decisions go out. You can usually search and find when last years revisit days were - there was a post here or on each school’s website - and that can provide you with some guidelines. Some schools have 2 days and others one. Some will split it up by year. Some will have a full day program and others a half day.
Last week of March after kids are back from spring break and first week of April before 4/10 deadline to respond is the time frame.
