My daughter is looking at both schools as a communications major focusing on media and production. Any thoughts on the communications program at West Chester university vs. Virginia Tech. The cost to attend West Chester is much less and we are trying to figure out if Virginia Tech will offer her more opportunities.
Virginia Tech has post grad surveys online you can look at. Communications does not appear to be a big program there, like engineering or business would be, for instance. If West Chester is substantially less, that is something to consider.
Virginia Tech is better but we’d need more information, such as: student’s stats; your budget (from income and savings); net cost at each; career goals.
This is just anecdotal, but I just toured West Chester University this week with a friend whose other child goes to Virginia Tech. West Chester has a very large commuter population, very large undergraduate student body of 14000 relative to the admitted freshman class of 2500 ish, with 76% completing a Bachelor’s degree in 6 years. Food was not great. Small PA town close to Philly and campus was pretty. Virginia Tech is more selective and more challenging to get into (not sure of details, but a lot of threads I’ve seen are more like Virginia Tech vs. RPY vs. Stevens vs. MIT). My friend says the food at Virginia Tech is spectacular and prioritized. I don’t have program specific info. Good luck.
