Hi! I’m currently a freshman at a community college in Maryland. I’ve always had a love for fashion and definitely want to be in the fashion or entertainment industry. The first school I’m thinking about transferring to is the University of Maryland. They have Broadcast Journalism as well as Communication Studies. Right now, I am a communications major. Not until recently I realized I would love to be a fashion Broadcaster or work with TV shows. Being on the News would be okay too, but it’s not as appealing to me. Transfer deadlines are coming up soon and I’m stuck on which major I should apply too. Other schools I was looking at were Syracuse and NYU. If anyone has other options that may be cheaper with good broadcasting or communications programs let me know! The cities I would love to work in include New York City, Atlanta, maybe Miami, California, and my hometown Washington D.C.
Don’t go into broadcast journalism unless you’re passionate about the field. It’s highly competitive, and only the best and the toughest make it. It can take YEARS to make it to a top market such as NYC!
Syracuse is one of the top journalism schools in the country. Very hard to get into its prestigious J school.
And what do you mean “fashion broadcaster”? I’ve worked in TV and in broadcasting my whole career. Never heard of such a position.
Have you ever seen ENews? There was a woman named Giuliana Rancic who did broadcasting on the red carpet and she talked out celebrity fashion and interviews celebrity fashion. Would you recommend broadcast journalism for someone who wants to produce/host tv shows or work within the entertainment industry overall?
