I was wondering which major is more practical? A communications major or a business administration one? I really enjoy communicating with people but I also want to learn management skills because I want to run a business in the future. I also wish to get a MBA in Marketing, so which would be better for my admission? I hear communications is a “useless” major and I also hear that business administration is not favorable when applying to business school.
Hey, I am a bit biased as I am in Business Admin studying Marketing. I would definitely say if you want to go into marketing take business administration! Especially if you go to a school specialized in Business like my school Hult International Business School you will get many more work opportunities in that specialty. An example would be for us they bring in clients that we create marketing strategies or market research for. Plus communication will be a key part of any Business degree, but business would not be a key part of a communication degree.
A look at the courses required for the respective majors at one university chosen at random (CSU Cal Poly) shows that Business Administration has courses conveying specific business knowledge, whereas Communications Studies does not.
