Community Based organizations

How helpful is it for candidate to go through community based organizations that advocate for the child to the boarding school? Does that help or hurt the child?

Hello @houstonmoma - when we went though the application round several years ago, there were active community based organizations that worked with a couple of the schools we had toured. There are some specific programs that have relationships with some schools at the time. I believe it is a strength. Perhaps, there are folks on here with more recent experience with this.

Thank you! That’s helpful to know. I hope someone can chime in with their experience.

My son’s school had relationships with a couple of organizations such as A Better Chance and my sense was that they really helped with placement. When they recommended a student to a specific school, it’s because they know what kind of kid thrives there. That works for both the student and the school.

They also tend to be helpful with preparation, and for families going through the process, getting guidance on testing, essays, applications, interviews, etc relieves stress and boosts success.

I think that if you have an option like this, it could be worthwhile.
