Community Collages

I am thinking of taking SENIOR PRIVILEGE, I will take 6 classes, they will be English 12, Civics/gOV’t Issues, Precalculus, Finance and Investment, Earth and Space and PE. Will this affect me if I try to go to a 4 year Collage ? will they care about this? I want to go to first to a Community Collages for 2 years but if I change my mind will this affect it? What do you guys recommend me?

Your schedule seems fine, and is certainly sufficient for a community college. Since you are taking English, social studies, math and science, you should be good. If there is a specific four-year school you have in mind, check their admissions requirements. It sounds like you are on the right track. If you have a good guidance counselor, they can also help you out.

@788872c I noticed that you posted about CCs near Palm Beach. I looked into Broward CC (now called Broward College). It’s a good CC. Maybe it’s not too far away for you? If your plan is to go to CC for two years and then transfer into a Florida 4-year school, I suggest taking Broward CC’s “liberal arts” Associates Degree track. Those tracks are meant for people who want to transfer after 2 years. Great schools in Florida that you may consider are UF Gainsville and the New College of Florida. Both are public schools and have low in-state tuition. You may want to look into whether STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) majors get tuition breaks in Florida. The governor was speaking about this a couple of years ago. http://www.alligator.org/blogs/monday/gator_aider/article_27a54856-9511-11e2-bd84-001a4bcf887a.html

FAU and many other schools may not be the best idea because the graduation rates there are very bad. For any college that you decide to transfer to, check the graduation rates. (You want to graduate, right? So you need to go to a school with high graduation rates.) FAU’s grad rate is about 17%. That means only 17% students who start at FAU (and who have debt) graduate. Most of them don’t graduate and can’t get good jobs as a result, and they have student loan debt.

To find colleges with good graduation rates, go to a site called “college navigator” you can find each college. Under that college’s listing, you can find 1) the graduation rates and 2) under the “net price” tab you can see how much that college will cost you. (What colleges say that their tuition price is and what the price ACTUALLY is for YOU is usually very different).

If you are male, the New College of Florida needs more boys. You might have a better chance transferring into that school. On the other hand U F Gainsville is big. They may have more slots, so try both. University of Central Florida in Orlando has pretty good grad rates, but is a little more expensive, but not by much. Good luck!!

FAU is now advertising it’s “amazing” rating by the state of florida, but you have to read how it earned this rating to see if the measures are helpful to you. My reading of this article is that FAU’s graduation rate, while improved, is still terrible and you’re better off if you look to transfer to UF Gainsville or New College of Floriday. Looking at the bottom of this article, you can see that FAU improved it’s grad rate by something like 6 or 8 points. That would bring it’s grad rate up to about 17+8=25%. So 75% of kids starting at FAU still do not graduate. The grad rates of the other two schools are close to 70% for 4 years. The other institutions will allow you to graduate for the same price of tuition, room and board. And they have much better teaching.
