Community College Courses with UC GPA

I’m planning to take 6+ courses through my local community college between grade 10-11. My high school has a rule that no more than 3 courses from concurrent off-campus college courses may be transferred
onto the [district name] high school transcript. Since UC asks for self reported classes, would all 6+ classes count has UC honors or would it be limited to 3?

All community college classes will count on the UC application. It doesn’t matter if your high school puts them on your transcript or not. Good luck!!!

Do you have links to threads that you can share with OP? It sounds like they are a freshman in high school. They have only been on College Confidential for a couple of weeks and probably don’t know who Gumbymom is.

UC capped GPA?

I stumbled across a UC GPA calculator. My kid doesn’t want to go to school in California, but I like mathy things so I played with it. Can someone explain the capped thing to me? It seems as though, from playing with it, if the proportions of A’s vs B’s and of honors vs more honors stay constant, so the weighted and unweighted GPA stay constant, the capped GPA goes down as the number of credits goes up. So when I calculate my kid’s GPA for sophomore year, it’s one thing and then when I forecast for junior or senior year imagining that everything else is stable, it falls. Why would they penalize a kid for taking extra classes or passing an extra grade? Aren’t those things colleges want? I’m just being curious.

Dual/Concurrent Enrollment grades in GPA calculation

Hello, I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but can’t find anything to confirm. Basically S24 took CC classes starting 8th grade Summer. Out of 14 classes he completed so far, 6 of them were before 9th grade ended. I know UC Capped GPA calculates using only AP/H classes taken between 10-11 grade, but it doesn’t specifically say how and when CC classes were taken. None of the 14 classes show up in his HS transcript, so he essentially took all of his usual HS classes plus 2-3 additional CC classes each semester on top. I think for fully weighted UC GPA, they will just add up every one of his CC transferable grades irrespective of if they were taken in the 8-9th grade. However, if they ignore the CC grades earned prior to 10th grade, then he basically forfeits 6 of those bonus points, which I don’t think will be the case. Any input is greatly appreciated.

CSU is similar, except that each semester of college course counts as two courses and two grades for CSU frosh admission HS GPA calculations.

Other colleges will also want to know about all of the college courses you took while in high school, whether or not they are on your high school record.

as an aside, don’t slack off in those juco courses, as they will follow you post high school. For example, grades in those courses will count in law school admissions, should you choose that route later in life.
