Community College Questions

Dear College Confidential,

I am a high school senior, and I am interested in attending an Ivy League school such as Cornell or a public alternative such as the University of California at Berkeley. However, in my first two years of high school, I slacked off, earning only a 2.25 GPA. It was only in my junior year of high school that I’ve started applying myself, getting involved in
extra-curricular activities and taking AP courses.

In these last two years, I’ve earned roughly a 3.5 GPA, although when averaged out with my first two years it comes out to a 2.72 (for my last semester, I plan on getting all A’s) which might boost it up to 2.8 or 2.9.

Regardless of my exceptional academic performance in my last two years, I am still only in the bottom half of my class, and with my overall GPA I seriously doubt that my chances of getting into my “dream schools” (Cornell, Berkeley and Princeton) are plausible.

So that being said, I feel that community college is the best alternative, however, even if I get a 3.7+ GPA, will it exonerate my past academic performance?

Or do I necessarily have to send my high school transcript with my community college transcript?

Also, can I attend community college for more than two years? I have no language experience in high school, and I need about three years for a lot of these schools.
