Community College the right choice for High Achieving Students?

I was reading some past threads on community colleges and I came across this post from a user:

“One aspect people often forget is that, if you have high stats (SAT/ACT scores), CC will NOT save you money and will in fact make you lose out on all the possible merit scholarships that are only available to freshmen.”

My question is why would high achieving students that attend community college NOT save money? Wouldn’t it be more likely that they would receive more scholarships and merit because they do perform well?

Most of this merit aid/scholarships are only for freshman at top universities and even lower ranked state schools.

While CC saves money, there are hardly any merit scholarships that top universities offer for transfer students. If I was applying with the stats I have right now as a freshman would have gotten me a good amount of merit aid. However, since I am a transfer student I won’t be getting the merit aid since I’m not a freshman. I hope that makes sense.
