I’m pretty new on this forum so hopefully I posted this on the right place.

On uc berkeley’s transfer requirements it says that I need 60 transferable semester units.
I will be attending a maricopa community college in arizona next semester. After 2 years I hope to transfer out of state to either uc berekely, ucla, or nyu.
I don’t want to attend an in state university so basically are my credit hours transferable after 2 years of attending a maricopa community college to any of these schools?

So, I was in a slightly different situation, I did a year of CC in Maryland, then moved to California and did a year at a CCC, then transferred to UCB as an EECS major.

I think all of my credits (at least in terms of hours) counted. All of my Maryland coursework had been considered transferable for MD, though I wasn’t looking at Cal then. I don’t think they’ll officially evaluate your coursework until you’re accepted and stuff. For CoE at UCB, they wanted a syllabus and course description for each class I took out of state, so they could determine equivalences. (For the most part, it went as expected… Calc 3 transferred as Multivariate, Chem 101 turned into 1A, etc.)

Oh, side note, you can use assist.org to get a quick glimpse of what courses different UCs want for each majors. You’ll only see California schools listed, but it’ll give you an idea of what pre-reqs you’re expected to complete. For certain majors, some classes are really hard to find, so expect to have to retake those.

As for which CCCs have students transferring where, well, I’d imagine there are students at every UC from every CC. There seem to be more transfers from close by, but I think that’s more related to people not wanting to move to the other side of the state.

As long as you are going to any california community college you are gonna get priority over out of state transfers and high school applicants. There are some cali community colleges that have special relationships with the UC nearest to them, for example Long Beach City College’s honors program has a very strong relationship with UCLA. So it really depends on where you want to go and where you want to live. But it would be nice to set up your network of friends and what not while you are chilling in community college and then when you transfer you will already be used to the situation there. I am a UCLA hopeful and I moved from out of state to go to LBCC and I am very glad I did.

Depending on your intended major and campus, some prerequisite courses are hard to find at CCs. Usually, CCs near the target UC or CSU are more likely to have courses matched to that nearby UC or CSU (e.g. Laney and Diablo Valley for Berkeley, Cuesta for Cal Poly SLO). You can use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see what CCs have the best coverage of your major’s prerequisites at your target UC or CSU.
