community college ?

Before, i wanted to go to ucsd but now i am doing not so good. (for uc’s standards) so i thought about going to community college ? any suggestion ?
Is it okay to go to cc first and then transfer? is that possible/guaranteed ? (if you do well ? )I am gonna apply to ucsd and give a shot! i just wanted to know about cc.

By the way, i am taking ap chem rite now but i have a c in the class. so i was wondering since i am not so good at chemistry, can i not take the ap exam ? cuz i know for sure i wont pass it. i just want to get a A by the end of the year then i am happy. So i was wondering if colleges l take that into account ??

Thanks !

ucsd offers a guaranteed xfer program. See http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_info_ccc/tr_adm_prgms_sd.html

there are a number of differences between a CC and a 4-year school in terms of types of students you’ll meet, living away from home, campus spirit, etc. With the right attitude and by getting involved a CC student can have a good experience and be ready for a 4-year school. It wouldn’t be my top choice of ways to go, though.

Unless your school makes it mandatory to take the AP test, you really dont have to. But I would give it a shot…better to try and get a poor score (which you can choose to strike), than to not have taken the test at all. I thought I was going to get a 2 or 3 on one of my AP exams, got a 5. You never know.

I think there’s a program called TAP or something that practically guarantees transfer to UCs, including UCLA and Cal.

I agree with mikemac though. Unless you’re denied admittance as a freshman or don’t have enough money, community college isn’t very fun and not the best way to go. However, it could also be your path to Berkeley, if that is your interest, as I know MANY who have transferred after a shaky high school career with 2 good years at a CCC.

Yeah CC can be good for some people, but you have to be motivated. My one buddy goes to CC but he is extremely smart and motivated (he will get his associates in 1 year) so he took full advantage of it, and if all goes according to plan he will have a MA in 3 years.
