I do not know how Colleges know Community Service and ECs of the applicant.
Will the high school send to them ? Or the applicant let them know on the resume?
Thanks.

The resume. You can elaborate more on your ECs there yourself. Your high school can’t. I didn’t even know high schools could send out your ECs. Mine didn’t even know what I did lol.

Colleges do not believe us on SAT scores and transcript… Do they believe us on Community services and ECs ? I am so confused. :-((

Community service and EC can be 2 different things.

EC stands for EXTRA CURRICULAR in other words being in NHS or on the FB team are included in this. Your hs transcript traditionally will note this. For example, it will show NHS grades 10-12. Class President 10, FB 9-12, etc.

Community service can be exaggerated, and you are correct it can be manipulated to look better than it really was.

However, the EC and Community service for the most part exists to prove the child is a well rounded student and not just book smart. For students with weaker grades, they look at this as a factor. However, they can read through the BS. 250 HRS at the local hospital is one thing, but the kid who really did 250 hrs., will also post the jobs they did at the hospital.

Our DS was a lifeguard worked 20 hours a week, but under that EC he stated he had 23 saves, and was the SR lifeguard responsible for training and certifying new guards.

The details will prove if it is BS or if it real.

Additionally, UMDCP is a stat oriented school. SAT and gpa will matter most, then the essay, and finally the ECs and CS.

What do you mean they won’t believe you on SAT scores and transcripts? The only way that’s possible is if you just tell them yourself instead of sending them officially through collegeboard and your school like you’re supposed to. For such important things like that they can’t take your word for it like ECs and CS. I don’t see how they won’t believe you on ECs and CS, unless you’re lying about something big like NHS.

I think that is what the OP is implying…you just can’t say it for SAT and grades, you must prove it. However, for ECs it appears you can just say it.

As I stated before, do yourself a favor order a sealed transcript for yourself. Open it and you will see exactly what the school is reporting regarding your child.

It is also adviseable to do this because it allows you to make sure the grades match and there are no errors on the transcript.

^ "to make sure the grades match and there are no errors on the transcript. "

Yes, my transcript did have errors. :/

Definitely double check your transcripts…when I got an unofficial copy (just doesn’t have the school seal stamped), I noticed that my AP lang grade from junior year was blank, meaning my teacher didn’t submit my grade. Would’ve been weird for UMD to see that yeah I got ap credit for the exam and therefore out of engl101 but no grade for the actual class.
