Comp science/engineering with low stats

SAT: 1180
GPA : 4.7 out of 6 (weighted)
I have already applied to all the umasses. But I’m more like 60% sure I won’t be able to make it to Amherst- which has an excellent program. Can u guys plz suggest other universities where I could have a better chance?
I’m mostly looking for colleges in MA but if I can get into a decent school elsewhere, I’m ready.

^plz help

Search here for ABET accredited engineering programs. There are plenty of 4 year programs where you can get in:

Rutgers

With low stats, focus on schools that don’t ask you to declare a major up front. Understand you’ll have to pass some difficult weed out classes, though.

Does Rutgers have rolling admissions?

No. The due date was December 1. However, their web page says you can apply late and they will still consider you if they haven’t filled their class.

Okay, so I interpret this as you’ve applied to UMass Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell. I’m not sure how to interpret your GPA, but if it translates to at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, then I suggest you add UMaine in Orono to your list. They have a Flagship Match Scholarship Program you’d qualify for (min 3.0 + 1120 SAT) and they are ABET-accredited.

If for any reason none of these pan out, I’d suggest looking at Springfield Technical Community College. Doing well there would get you into the UMass system to complete a four year engineering or cs degree.

Look into Western New England University and Wentworth Institute in MA and University of New Haven in CT.

Many of the community colleges in MA will have strong engineering or CS prep for the state institutions including UMass. And, you might actually pay less at a UMass campus if you start at a community college. I work at one of them and was a CS student many moons ago.

My S19 applied to Dartmouth and Lowell, but not Amherst as they give lousy merit for in state students. You also shouldn’t discount the programs at campuses other than Amherst as the others can be great as well. My kid has pretty high stats and received full tuition and fees at Dartmouth but only half at Lowell.

Feel free to message me @ijustwanttogetin and I can help you if you’d like. I have also been an academic advisor for CS students at my college.
