<p>Is it a good idea to compare the two colleges in my “Why” essay? I’m applying to a college that has the same excellent engineering program as the other one. In other words, they are the leaders in this field in our state. But I somehow mentioned why I chose them instead of the other college for several reasons. Although I did not explicitly say the name of the other college, I still don’t know if it’s a good idea.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t do it. Focus on what you like about the college and what it has to offer, not why you aren’t interested in a different college. It’s “Why College X?” not “Why Not College Y?”</p>
<p>No reason to mention the other engineering program, your reasons are still the same.</p>
