Comparing the new health insurance proposal vs Obama care - No politics please

I hope so, too.

Mental health coverage is also being threatened by the new insurance proposals. It took years to get mental health parity. This would be yet another giant, GIANT step backwards. http://chirblog.org/aca-repeal-could-gut-mental-health-parity-progress/.

:frowning:

Well…contractually you have your health care covered…but the issue is…what will that health care BE? That could change for everyone…because the insurance companies could very well make changes to your coverage based on the provisions in whatever ends up being the new health care legislation.

True… but my company self funds, health care company only administers. It was comprehensive before and after the ACA. However, I think they left in the Cadillac tax, which will affect people with good plans, as the companies will find a way to get it out of the employees.

@busdriver11

It is not possible to predict any changes that could happen to,actual coverage. Your contracted health insurance…even self insured, will only be what is covered under the plan. Insurance companies could very well reduce things they cover…and your insurance plan could, reflect those changes.

Too soon to,say!!

Most companies decide what they want to cover based on cost and other factors. It’s up to the company purchasing the insurance - not the other way around.

TrumpCare only prohibits abortion services in individual plans that people want to receive the tax credit for. The rest are just coverage of things that insurance does not have to offer to sell a policy.

If a company is willing to pay an insurance company will cover almost anything.

Busdriver’s company will decide what coverage they are willing to pay for (and probably based on their negotiations with the union.)

I don’t know, thumper. I’ve had company insurance for 21 years, and even back in the day of funky, patchwork insurance, we had everything covered without question. It is to my companies benefit to keep us healthy, because they are not enthusiastic about paying 60% of our salary to us for not working, and we have a large number of people who go out on medical disability regardless. But you never know, things are really in flux and could get messed up for everyone. Though at this point, I’m much more concerned about everybody else’s medical care.

Mental care cuts will spell trouble for our city. The homeless population is already a huge problem, and will get even worse.

It took years and years to get the legislation passed to get mental health parity. MH does not have a big lobby nor lots of $, so it was for a very long time treated poorly, with limited sessions and a higher copay than other healthcare services. It would be a crying shame, as difficult as it currently is to get access to any decent MH services, for that to all be rolled back and for MH to again have less covered and at a higher cost to the patient.

What the heck? Charging older people 5 times as much as younger ones? In what universe does that make sense? That’s not right.

So basically, we get the same crap Obamacare-dictated insurance with higher costs.

So…the new “plan” whatever that is…will happen as of January 2018. But the tax credits will come?? When??

And also fo this needs to happen in time for all of the insurance companies to make their adjustments before the open enrollment period happens.

Seems like the open enrollment period should be changed to reflect when folks do their taxes…and would have some sense of what their tax credit is actually going to be.

Cart before horse at this point.

From what I read, the tax credits don’t start til 2020.

If they expect Trumpcare to start in 2018, there’ll be alot of chaos in the individual market since insurance companies have to submit their plans and costs to state regulators well in advance of open enrollment. Those companies will be making decisions blindly, since Trumpcare may not be finalized until after they need to submit their plans and costs.

As a bonus, you may have to share your genetic testing results with your employer and others:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/1313
https://www.statnews.com/2017/03/10/workplace-wellness-genetic-testing/

Wow–forcing the sharing of genetic testing results is quite invasive. Where is ACLU?

So…if tax credits don’t start until 2020…what happens for 2018 and 2019???

This is serious if this is true.

@HImom —ACLU probably busy fighting other affronts!

I believe that the subsidies from ACA will be used until the tax credit takes effect. I’m pretty sure that is what I read in Kaiser’s synopsis. But, the 5-1 cost differential based on age starts in 2018 (so the next enrollment period.) Those not eligible for any subsidy under ACA will really get harmed until the tax credit helps them out a bit in 2020 - if their income is less than what is eligible for the tax credit.

But everyone effected should read the synopsis in case I am stating this incorrectly.

I heard today that members of congress are now buying on the ACA circuit and no longer part of FEHB marketplace. Is this true? If so, why would they do this to themselves?
