Comparing UC Honors Programs and Regents Scholarships

Just checking out this thread. Would it make sense to make a note in the summary up top about the major benefits of Regents/Honors at each campus, if they differ? For example, if they differ in which ones offer priority registration…a huge benefit at any UC campus?

I thought ALL of them offered priority registration, until I saw the above!

I know people can click on the links to find out the benefits but that seems like a biggie, right up there with the scholarship amounts in importance.

Awesome! Thanks for the update. I can’t find a link to it on the UCM website. Do you have one? Is it awarded to in-state only, or OOS only?

Regents is the same at most campuses. Some include honors housing. Most have special library privileges. UCI took away priority enrollment for Regents in Fall 2024, but offers it to CHC. I think that is a way to nudge Regents to participate in the honors program.

UCI has a four year on campus housing guarantee which is great, but I’m not sure if ACC is considered “on campus.” If someone was offered Regents from UCI and can check on the four year on campus housing offer, I would appreciate it.

S24 got it in an email and then letter. This is what I found on the website re: eligibility Chancellor's Scholarship - University of California-Merced Scholarships

Congratulations to your son! Thanks for the link. That’s all I could find as well.

Not sure if this is mentioned above. UC Merced started offering OOS students WUE scholarships. That is a scholarship on top of the WUE tuition discount, which makes UCM even more affordable for OOS students. My S24 got $4,000 per year for four years. Not sure if every OOS student received the same amount or not.

Just so I am clear… The WUE website shows tuition as $18,783 and your son received $4K/year on top of that? That’s fantastic!

Yes, the exact wording of the award letter is this:

“Congratulations again on your acceptance to UC Merced! Your outstanding academic performance has earned you our inaugural UC Merced Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. This special honor provides you with a renewable award of $4,000 for each of the next four years to help defray the cost of tuition costs. Congratulations to you and your family!”

Because it has the word “inaugural”, I think this is new for 2024-25 academic year. After receiving the email, I logged into the Financial Aid portal, and confirmed that they have loaded $2,000 to each semester for 2024-2025.

A couple of notes on UC Davis:

–UHP offered to top 1-2% of freshman and transfer admits (150-200 enrolled students per year), includes priority registration, Honors-only classes, centralized Honors housing and a bunch of other benefits
–Additional merit scholarships include Fulmor (for College of Letters & Science), $30K over four years

Thanks for the update.

Regents is usually top 1-2% and UHP is offered to more than those who received Regents (ie. more than top 2%). Do you know if that has changed?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if UCs at least try to spread the Regents scholarship across all different majors? Thanks.

Each campus is different. I can’t say with certainty, but I think most try to spread them out by college or school.

UCSD increased to 7500/year (30K in 4 years) this year.

Thanks! The website still says $5K. Do you have a link to where it says $7500 for incoming freshmen?

Thank you and congratulations! I’ll update the top post. If you see it updated on the website, let me know and I will update the link in the top post.
