My son us trying to make decision between these two schools for next year and I would like an unbiased opinion.
Did he get into the honors program at either one?
Did he get scholarships - what’s your net cost at each?
Has he visited? Done an overnight?
Did he apply anywhere else?
SDSU is a bit bigger (11,000 vs. 7,000 at USD).
Both admit roughly 90% of all who apply.
Both have similar average ACT scores, 30% at 3.75 GPA, 5% at ACT 30+, 15% from top 10% class.

SDSU would be better for resource economics and agricultural business, USD would be better for Finance, Analytics, Entrepreneurship.
Brookings is probably nicer (a bit bigger, a real college town).
Have you looked into Concordia Moorhead? Larger city and very good college, strong business college that includes ethics, leadership opportunities, and global outlook, plus ease of adding computing or analytics as a double major or minor.
