Competition for Top Students

This is my first post. The good news is that my child has been accepted at Caltech and MIT and has received an academic “likely letter” from Harvard. My query is whether there is much competition among these universities for top students?

Thanks!

top students can receive multiple acceptances. And they often will “sweeten” FA packages in order to 'lasso" in a student accepted by other colleges considered to be “peers”.

^^ obviously meant to say that COLLEGES will sweeten FA packages etc etc…

For those tippy top schools, the FA packages are based on need, not merit, so they might not step up their FA packages to lure students. A friend’s daughter tried to negotiate with Stanford vs. other top schools that she had been accepted and Stanford told her that ALL their students are top students and they couldn’t do anything more for her. But it doesn’t mean you couldn’t try.
