Competitive GPA

i was wondering what is the competitive G.P.A.?

competitive for what

To get into Irvine, UC GPA of 3.6+, but that is entirely dependent on your other stuff as well, such as your SAT.

oh sorry, i was wondering what is a good competitive GPA for freshman, like above 3.6? i just finished my first semester and i got a 3.767, is that like… good or just average?

First semester in high school? As others have said if you have over a 3.6 you’re giving yourself a decent shot at getting in.

Freshman year of high school or incoming freshman? If its the former, then those grades will not be considered when calculating the UC GPA.

oh freshman year of college.

3.8 is good i guess.

totally depends on what you want to do after college though (and major).

oh thanks shoe factory, my major is business econ and i want to intern soon at some financial company. whats the optimum gpa i should have?

what should the SAT score be around? 1800+?

if you wanna get into UC irvine, your SAT should be above 1900. just to be safe tho, get like a 2100+, then you’ll be a shoe-in.

SATs should be above 1700 to be competitive. But that has to come with at least a 3.7+ UC GPA. To be a shoe in, anything above 2000 and 3.7 should be considered a match/safe match.

are ECs a big part of admissions?

i personally think it depends on what kind of grades you have. if you have strong GPA and SAT plus a good essay, they won’t matter as much. but if everything is about average, then a lot of EC’s will matter.
