yes i know there is a lot more to consider other than just stats but what are the threshold stats to stay competitive with no hook or anything out of the ordinary

depends on the person really.

2360 is pretty solid.

For any top 25 a minimum of 2100 will get you in the running. Anything above that is icing on the cake.

But your scores alone will NOT get you into any college.

Not really.

It’s more or less the MINIMUM score in order to be seriously considered.

Again, not really.

I’ll bite.

Then what is a 2100?

I think 2250
depending on your GPA, if it’s not above a 3.95 then----2300+

maybe I am just overly cautious :)

and of course SAT scores count, a lot too. It is one of the only measures (along with APs) to measure all high school students equally. And besides, SAT score are not important, we wouldn’t have them.

Look at the range of SAT scores (usually given from 25th to 75th percentile). Add together, divide in two. Try to be above the average.

ya for Columbia the top end is 760 and 770-----1530 which is like a 2250 when you add in writing.

Which is the top 25% of accepted applicants. The AVERAGE acceptance would be 1420 (710 for each old SAT section) and 680 for Writing. This is from the stats for the class of 2010.

Bear in mind that HALF of the kids admitted have scores BELOW that. Come on now, keep the dream alive.

You do have to include international students, legacies, URMs, recruits, etc though.

“I think 2250
depending on your GPA, if it’s not above a 3.95 then----2300+”

Yes. You ARE overly cautious. lol.

“Yes. You ARE overly cautious. lol.”

No he’s not. They guy/girl has no hooks at all. And he/she’s not talking about being average, but competitive. In order to be competitve I’d go for a 2300 to be safe. 2250 should be enough, but who knows.

“1530 which is like a 2250 when you add in writing.”

What? 1530/2=765; 765*3=2295… I don’t see why the top ppl should “only” get a 720 in writing when they get 750+ in math and verbal.

I think you should just try to get it as high as possible–at least 2300

a 2300 and 2320 might have a HUGE difference and it might not matter much, but you don’t want to feel bad about yourself if you are not accepted. If you try and score as high as you possibly can, you will know that you gave it all and if Columbia still doesn’t accept you, then it’s ok.

ye i agree, definitely 2250+…2300+ is even better.

From just looking at list of accepted applicants in this forum, most people either have 2250+, have amazing EC’s, or both

well everyone’s different. Really, if you’d like to check my chances thread, I’m more the GPA and EC’s individual. My SAT scores suck: 2180 and I’m probably gonna retake a third time but going by the 50% range is wrong. I believe Stanford for example accepts 600 athletes of its roughly 3000 admitted applicants(which only half or so actually enroll). Given the fact that legacies, URM, and offspring of VIP individuals are also vying for slots, shooting for over the 75% range would not be overly cautious at all.

2180 does NOT suck.

Some of the things you guys say is bloody unbelievable…

exactly rememberme1990
well vesalvay, since you are going to Columbia, may I ask you to share you stats?
