Okay, so my situation is unusual. I’m a senior in high school who is a freshman in college.

New College of Florida and Pine View School for the Gifted have a special program where a Pine View student can spend their senior year at New College if they get accepted as a junior. The only difference between me and an actual freshman at New College is that two of my classes have to be one politics class and one literature class (both at New College) to fulfill my high school course requirement.

So anyways, I’m at New College and I decided that it isn’t the school for me, so I applied to other schools. Now the way this program works is I apply as a Freshman, which is fine with me, I have no problem attending another four years of college. I’m almost positive I’m going to go to Scripps next year, and my question is about credits/placement.

Will Scripps college accept my classes as credit or placement? Also, do I have to take Writing 50 even though I’ve already taken and done very well in three other college literature classes with similar requirements (three 4-7 page papers and one 8-11 page paper)?

I also hear that Freshman have to live in doubles. I’ve spent this year in 3 different doubles living arrangement and a suite living arrangement and I much prefer the single living arrangement. Is there any way I can convince Scripps to let me not live in a double?

Sorry that my questions are so long and complicated.

You should definitely call the school and ask them about the classes, because I’m sure that you’ll get a lot of credit, though you may not be able to get out of writing 50, but who knows. I have a feeling that you wont be able to get a single room since all the freshman room assignments are random, and I’m pretty sure that they don’t give singles to freshman, unless you have some special circumstances. But you can definitely try.

Whenever I have had email contact with the Scripps admissions office they have gotton right back to me try the link at the bottohttp://www.scrippscollege.edu/admission/index.phpm of this page

Agree with the others – your best bet is to speak to Scripps directly. That said, I can offer tentative answers based on my own experiences…

Depends on the class, but probably both. My freshman roommate took chemistry at a CC to fulfill her HS chem requirement and that ended up placing her out of the Scripps science requirement.

Almost certainly yes, although I’m not 100% positive. I had a junior transfer student in my Writing 50 class and she said that there’d been no getting out of the requirement, but that’s only hearsay. If Scripps believes that the classes you’ve already taken really were similar (and Writing 50 is primarily a writing course, not a literature course), maybe you’ll be a unique case.

The only way to get a single as a freshman is if you have medical need. I knew a few people who sort of “defaulted” into singles. One roommate pair split up such that one girl moved into a tiny single, and it was late enough in the year that no one new moved into her spot, so both ended up with doubles, but that’s hardly a situation to wish for.

Not definite answers by any means, but maybe enough to tide your curiosity over until you hear back from the school :)

ETA: Just saw that this post was over a week old. Goodness. Sorry!
