A couple of years ago I had a particularly persistent pimple on my cheek near my nose. When it cleared up it left a small depression (like a large pore) that has never gone away. It’s not very big, but it’s bright red. I kept thinking it just hadn’t completely healed - I heal a lot slower in my upper 40’s, but after two years I don’t think it’s going away by itself.

I bought a battery operated face-scrubber, but that hasn’t helped.

It seems that even my Dermablend concealer can’t hide it for more than a couple of hours without the little red spot shining through. I can’t imagine seeing a dermatologist since it’s so small, but it just drives me crazy.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to get rid of this annoying blemish!

Second EKC’s suggestion. It’s good to see a dermatologist regularly for routine skin checks and an exam will tell you what to do about your specific concern. Don’t worry that it is “too small”, they will be glad to assess it.

I agree that you should ask a dr. about it.

If it turns out to be just cosmetic and nothing serious, I would recommend that you use a tiny bit of pure retinol on it. It may dry it out, but it aids in healing. I have a small crater on my forehead from a bad fall, for which I should have gotten stitches, but didn’t, and the retinol has helped smooth it out and reduce the redness.

If you have medical insurance, your visit could be covered. I went for a (very) annoying mole near my arm (why do they always have to pop up where the bra straps go?) which I though would be cosmetic and not covered. The dermatologist removed it, took a biopsy sample as the part of her SOP (duh, benign!) and the ins. paid for it. Your should be covered, IMO, - it is a wound that never healed. Oh, and ditch that scrubber (Clarisonic?) - my doc said they are a hoax.

Sorry, I think I described it poorly. It’s more of a scar. The skin is there, though it seems to be lower than the nearby skin, but it is red in color.

I don’t mean to be rude, but perhaps there is a better website for discussing matters of personal beauty? “College Confidential” isn’t exactly focused on skincare… I think the name speaks for itself.

A site like free-beauty-tips.com might be more appropriate (and helpful)!

And urinary tract infections. We have all parts of the body covered, inside and out. That’s what old folks like us talk about. Just wait 30 years.

Oh good grief, not again… I suggest you read the heading of this particular forum, xcgirl. It’s the “Parent Cafe”, which was set aside for non-college admission specific discussions. A cursory reading of the thread titles on this forum reveals that they rage anywhere from personal relationships to diet and fitness. There’s nothing inappropriate about the OP’s inquiry, but rather your insistence that he/she is out of line for posting it here.

Try Mederma or Scar Guard. I’ve had very good luck with these on many scars. I had a mole removed (have had many removed over the years) and for the first time ever, it left a raised red bump. I applied Scar Guard on it for a week and it almost disappeared. The only thing about Scar Guard is it leaves a ‘film’ on the scar and since it’s on your face, it might not look great while you’re treating it. So you might want to try Mederma first -it’s highly recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

– xcgirl is clearly too young (on CC and in real life) to be familiar with our amazing, hysterical menopause thread from a couple years back. a true cc classic.

Doesn’t everyone go to the dermatologist for an annual mole check?
btw, I did finally go for the colonoscopy a couple weeks ago. It was worth it if only to be rid of the nagging feeling.

I go every six months because skin cancer runs in my family and I’m blonde, blue-eyed and very fair-skinned. A lot of people don’t get annual check ups. Heck, I know people who don’t even go to the dentist on a regular basis.

Colonoscopy - I had mine a week ago (I was scared to death because of some symptoms I was having) but thankfully everything was okay. What a huge relief. Wished I hadn’t waited so long before doing it. My gastro said to come back in 5 years (I’m 48). I thought the recommendation was every 10 years. Has that changed?

Im a redhead & I dont go cause our ins policy has a high deductible& it is a PITA to have to get a referral everytime. ( our ins doesnt require it, but the Dr does)
