If I want to compose music (not just for instruments, but also for vocal… like songs for singers or bands), what is it that I’m suppose to major in.
I read about the music composition classes, but they seem like they’re only for instruments.

Thank you.

Someone could correct me, but I believe you would call this “songwriting”. Look up Berklee’s songwriting department, for example. I am assuming you also want to write lyrics.

Composition departments in conservatories/music shcools tend to be more classical, or jazz in some instances, and compositions for voice and instruments also tend to be in those areas. For bands, as opposed to choral groups or chamber music ensembles and the like, I am thinking you mean popular music, or rock, or whatever. Again, check out Berklee.

Other people will suggest other schools. Good luck.
