CompSci CC transfer with 4.0 GPA considering dropping non-major E&M class last semester before transfer (staying over 60 units). Could this hurt admission chances at UCs/USC after application already submitted?

Hi all,

This is my last semester at CC before I transfer, but I am having issues with one of my classes.

Physics: Electricity and Magnetism is giving me a hard time, and I don’t know if it’s worth it to stick it out. I’m not clicking with the professor, and the hours sometimes feel draining. I might be able to get a B/A, but the amount of work I would have to put in is way bigger than the benefit I feel I would get from passing.

It’s especially hard to feel motivated once you realize this particular class isn’t an outright requirement for any of my schools.

The only thing that’s stopping me from dropping right now is me wanting to be cautious and truly know the consequences before I do (especially since my application is already out). Is there anything I need to know if I hypothetically did drop? Most importantly, would this even remotely affect my admissions chances (like rescinding me if I was “on the fence”)? This would be my very first W in a solid academic record.

Check with all of the colleges applied to for what they want you to do if you change your planned or in-progress course schedule that you reported on the application. Commonly, they will want an update through the portal or email or some such (varies by college). Be sure that the course dropped is not required for transfer, your major, or to reach 60 semester (90 quarter) credit units before transfer.

Giving them a surprise on the final transcript after matriculation has the highest risk of rescission.
