Computational Linguistics

Okay I am not a genius on the matter but I do know that it deals somewhat with “analyzing language (recognition) or synthesizing language (generation).” (Wikipedia)
I happen to be relatively good at Computer Science (5 on AP AB test) and I am genuinely interested in the study of languages. But…

Analyzing I understand. Voice recognition and all that stuff is fun but on the other hand,

If you’re “synthesizing language” or generating text (which I’m assuming is the same thing as translating), doesn’t that take away the whole point of loving a language? Languages require hard work and time and to be working against that, making a flawless translator, just ruins the whole point of studying a language. If there was a translator for everything I would want to shoot myself.

10char!!!

I hate translators (computer versions of cours, not the people), it truly does take away from the learning of foreign languages.

But if you like it, go for it
