Computer enginering with a minor or major.

Hi, I’m new
I am interested in computer engineering and business and computer information systems. Since I am interested in them I am now looking at which combination with CE would make the most money.*

-CE with minor in business
-CE with major in business
-CE with minor in computer information systems
-CE with major in computer information systems.

Is business the same as computer information systems?

thanks for the help!

3 questions:

Do you mind to tell us which school you go to?
We kind of need this information since I am not sure what are the requirements for the minor (or you can actually list them in your next response).

Are you now a college student, or are you becoming a college student?

Which one do you find most interested in? Software or hardware? or both.

I say never double major unless you really enjoy doing it. You want to make the most money out of your diploma. Well, I don’t think any of those will make you richer just because you earn a double major / a minor.

Say it took you additional 4 courses to get a minor in either study. Even if you can graduate within four years, you are taking up your free time.
You are better off using your free time doing three things: rest, make portfolio and study.
Make portfolio is essential - create a software application, get an internship, create a mini robot or something like those are counted as making portfolio.

Out of those CIS may be a better option - since you may not have all that free time and energy to self-learn CIS stuff. Look at the requirement for CIS. It is a very hot field today. However, you really need experience. Hence, you should think about my point about having enough free time to do all those three things.

With business minor - you can probably get those just using your liberal arts requirement…
Don’t major in business. You are better off getting a job for a few years, and then pursue MBA.

i am rising senior in hs but i am planning ahead. i am sure i can get into gatech.
You said CIS is good, but is as a minor or major with CpE?

i am interested in both hardware and software

i can sacrifice free time

this is a bump

To be it seems like GA Tech’s CpE is more EE-sided. I am not familiar with this school’s CpE at all…that was my impression by looking into the curriculum. I am not sure if you do take fewer CSC courses.

So I was waiting for someone who went / go to GA Tech

Computer Engineering IS both hardware and software. And while I am not sure about your school, my school’s CE program takes over 120 hours, so there is not room for a double major. I think a minor in business would work. I would think CE would require enough computer science/software classes you don’t an additional minor to do CIS.

i would like to add CIS maybe not at the same time. Like get my CpE degree then come back a few years later to get my CIS degree. Which would be more helpful, minor or Major in CIS w/ masters in CpE

First, let’s have someone clarify whether the CpE program at GATECH is really EE-sided.
[Prerequisite Diagram & Typical Schedule for CmpE Program](http://www.ece.gatech.edu/academics/undergrad/cmpe_prereq.html)
[Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Degree Requirements](http://www.ece.gatech.edu/academics/undergrad/cmpe_require.html)

ill try to do some research on that. Help is appreciated thanks guys!

If I were you I’d go for CompE as an undergrad (no minor) and get an MBA aftwerward.

do you have a reason for that?

this is a bump

Go to here and ask people to give you answers to my question:

Ask them what CS classes do they take? Sometime their engineering students don’t come to this forum. Furthermore, call GA Tech on Monday to find out more on your own. Ask the staff that you don’t understand what **CS electives /b you would have to take.
