Computer for Online Program

<p>I’m going to be starting an online masters program in the fall and will be needing a new computer. Here’s what the university recommends as a minimum…</p>

<p>Intel Core i3-2310m (2.10 GHz)
4 GB Memory
Intel HD Graphics 3000
250 GB Harddrive
Windows 7 Ultimate
8x DVD+/-RW Combo Drive</p>

<p>Needs to be able to use:
Adobe Acrobat
QuickTime Player
Flash Player
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Word</p>

<p>Budget: Ideally less than $1k.</p>

<p>Currently using a Dell Inspiron, but open to suggestions…</p>

<p>Those are low requirements. Keep your Dell. If your Dell doesn’t qualify, and you liked it, buy another.</p>

<p>I got a laptop that fitted those minimum specs for about $350.
Edit: Besides Windows 7 Ultimate</p>

<p>Those requirements are high for basic web browsing and flash. My old desktop with a Pentium 4 was able to use many flash based applications and was fast enough to type papers on and view movies on.</p>
