Computer Problem

Today when I turned on my computer I got a blue screen saying that some of my files are NTFS and that chckdsk is checking for consistency in the files.

It proceeded to check…deleted a couple of registry values…recovered one or two files…then the computer started as usual.

What exactly does that mean? Is my hard drive about to crash soon?

No, it means that you computer is doing what it’s supposed to do. chckdsk runs on occasion to verify that your drive has no bad sectors or corrupted files. Don’t worry.

I’ve had my computer for almost two years now, and this is the firsts time it’s done this. I didn’t schedule any chckdsk scans.

It does it automatically. Don’t worry, complete and total meltdowns are actually pretty rare, contrary to popular belief.

kevdude,

Ditto. Not a worry. It’s fine.

Thanks guys.

I was just a little concerned because my computer wouldn’t boot after I brought it back from winter break, forcing me to reformat (that was about two months ago). It’s been running without incident since, until this thing came up today.

Your computer is infected. Soon, the virus will take over completely. In other words, your computer is terminally ill. It IS contagious, so be sure to take proper sanitary and sterility precautions. I’d suggest putting it into quarantine.
