What is the job market like for computer science majors?

Well, the crazy dotcom boom days, when, with the right skillset, you could literally graduate and make 120-150k with stock options to start are over. So if that’s what you’re expecting, you got another thing coming.

However, CS is still pretty decent - certainly a lot more marketable than a liberal arts degree. Outsourcing will continue to eat away the at the low-end grunt coding, so you will have to get experience in higher level skills.

Definitely, the days when a high school dropout could borrow some books on programming, practice for a few months, and then get a high paying job are over. What will really matter is your ability to see the big picture and manage large coding projects.

Thanks for the timely advice sakky.
