<p>On your second question, it usually doesn’t matter whether you pick a major or not when you apply. However, in your case it MIGHT make a difference if you are applying to a specific school within USC and must be accepted by that school as well as to USC in general. That sometimes happens with Engineering programs, and it is sometimes hard to transfer into Engineering from another college. </p>
<p>You should check the USC website, or maybe some of the there posters familiar with CS at USC will be able to help you.</p>
