Computer Science Rutgers v Stony Brook v Syracuse

Which of these three schools has the best computer science department?

Bump

They all look fine, but if you care about rankings, Rutgers and Stony Brook are higher ranked than Syracuse.

What net price are you looking at for each?

Rutgers and Syracuse are about $17,000 and Stony Brook is about $8000

Unless you have strong reasons to avoid Stony Brook, it seems like Stony Brook is a fine choice at the lowest cost among your choices.

Most likely won’t go to Stony Brook. What do you think is better between Rutgers and Syracuse?

Not sure, but ucbalumnus may have been referring to a ranking of these schools’ respective engineering programs (I understand you to mean you want computer science, not computer engineering). Overall, USNWR ranks Syracuse highest. Not for that reason, though, I think you might prefer Syracuse, mostly for its traditional university feel. If SU has a good selection of computer science courses (20+) that appeal to you, that may be all you need to know. Good luck.

Do you know if its easier to get jobs/internships from Syracuse compated to Rutgers>

Just a feeling, but you may get more personal attention regarding both internships and jobs from career services at Syracuse. My only hesitation in recommending SU comes from its SAT scores being somewhat lower than your other schools and its being ranked as the number one party school in an annoying student “survey.”

One other question to consider: are there any merit scholarships that require a high GPA to renew? If so, check the net price calculator to see what cost and financial aid could be if you did not get the needed GPA to renew.
