In a survey of Americans’ personal financial situations released by the Federal Reserve Thursday, nearly half of the respondents who majored in computer science or information science said that the costs of college outweighed the benefits.</p>

<p>Fewer than a quarter said the benefits outweighed the costs.

Respondents with education debt were asked about
the major or field of study for which the debt was
used to pay. The sample sizes by any one major are
too small to yield statistically valid results, so particu-
lar caution should be taken in estimating the per-
ceived value of any single field or major.

<p>The small sample size and the mixing of CS and what are probably the business-based MIS/IS/IT majors makes the conclusion unreliable.</p>
