So since cs is so impacted and i have really bad grades (like i am looking to get into a CSU), is it better for me to decide on software engineer since it is about the same thing? How are jobs in the lookout for this? computer science is impacted in almost every college correct?

One thing that a computer scientist or software engineering SHOULD be able to do is conduct a SEARCH for certain text.

College Confidential also has a neat little SEARCH function too…on this SAME topic.

Your Welcome

i am looking for people to answer my question, not always the same…

GLOBALTRAVELER got tired of saying the same thing in every thread…never thought id see the day

Two quotes come to mind:

Science is to Computer Science as what Fluid Mechanics is to Plumbing

and

Software Engineering: how to program if you cannot.

Both are from renowned computer people, and while caustic, have a bit of truth into them. And, a good coder needs both CS and SE on occasion. But you could have your kitchen be certified CMM Level 5 and once in a while it won’t be CS or SE that saves your project, but good ole’ intuition, trial and error, and the occasional well placed Google query.

To some of us, coding or computer programming is an art more than it is a science or engineering. I took a bunch of theory CS classes in grad school, used them exactly ONCE in 30 years. Architecture, maybe a few times, and so on. Ultimately it’s all about someone writing code. Maybe that someone is you, hence coding. Maybe you’re trying to optimize or prove things work. That’s CS. Maybe you have a team of Indians in Bangalore waiting to code the design you just did. That’s SE.

Fun stuff all.
