Why are so many people who got into top schools like MIT deciding to do computer science? Is it because computer science is a profitable field? I asked some of my friends and they said it was because there is the oppurtunity to keep climbing up a career ladder and rise to the top of the company or to start one’s own business. I know most engineers make slightly more than 100k at the height of their career. Do computer science coders have the chance to make much more?
It’s not just because of the money, but that is a big part of it.
Another HUGE part is the amount of freedom and stability you get.
Do you want to work from home? Sure. Night owl? Do your work at night. Anyone that is a competent programmer can get a job because there is high demand for developers. And, your friends were right. The more experience you get, the higher positions you get and you may find yourself supervising a company or product.
But maybe you find that path boring. You are creative, have great ideas, and don’t need to worry about financial stability. You can start a business! You can do anything, create a website, develop the next hit game, create a software that helps doctors cure cancer. The possibilities are infinite.
If you want to talk money, computer science is the best. You can become an instant billionaire like bill gates. Or, you can make 300k a year working as a manager in a large company. At the very least, you are guaranteed 100k a year if you work earnestly.
CS is the most fun field. It is the most innovative field. In my opinion, it is the most important field.
It is the best field.
